  • Total Time

    40 minutes (including chilling)

Here's a DIY version of the flavored, spreadable Gournay cheese originally from France.

Ingredients

Makes about 1 cup

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 small garlic clove, quartered

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 cup chopped parsley leaves

1 tablespoon chopped chives

Crackers or toasts (for serving)

Step 1

Combine cream cheese, butter, garlic, and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until smooth. Add parsley and chives and pulse a few times until well combined. Pack mixture into a small bowl, ramekin, or glass jar. Cover and chill at least 30 minutes. Serve with crackers or toasts.

Do Ahead

Step 2

Cheese can be made 5 days ahead. Cover and chill.

Cooks' Note

To add a citrus note to the cheese, incorporate 1/8 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest with the herbs. Or add 1/8 teaspoon (or more) freshly ground black pepper for a little spice.

  • This was wonderful and I let the finished dish refrigerate over night and it helped meld the flavors beautifully. It is an easy recipe and whenever I serve it there are no leftovers!

  • This recipe works very well if you substitute creme fraiche for cream cheese. I like the idea of adding some tarragon, too.

  • Took it to a family event and the serving container was scraped clean. I will be making again and I did let it sit in the fridge for a few days before serving.

  • Delicious and yummy!

  • This is a really tasty cream cheese recipe. The garlic, salt and chives were a great combination. I didn't have parsley on hand so I omitted it. We used it on bagels with sliced tomatoes and red onions. I'd definitely make it again.

  • Always a simple perfect sophisticated recipe!

  • Been making this for years. Great in an omelet and on mashed potatoes.

  • The favorite dip at the NYE party I hosted. I didn't even have the bread crisps but instead used totally lame keebler crackers. It was the first dish to get devoured.

  • Wow. This is a keeper and going into our family "Tested Best" book! Perhaps I was a little liberal with the garlic (more is always better to my family) and it held true for yet another recipe. We were invited to a friend's house for dinner and I'm bringing this with small toasts. I'm sure it'll be a hit!

  • Great recipe. Easy and delicious. I added a bit of lemon zest. I would recommend this.

  • A favorite spread that is even better using goat cheese- and less fat and calories!!! A little tarragon ramps up the "frenchness" as well.

  • This is delicious, and I have been making this "Boursin" knock-off for years, to the delight of my guests. To mine, I also add a little of each: dried basil, thyme, and oregano. The down sides are, there's never any left for me the next day, and folks get so full they can't finish dinner!

  • Such a nice write-up, i appreciate your way of writing, thank you so much for sharing cakengifts.in/cake-delivery-in-delhi cakengifts.in/cake-delivery-in-gurgaon

  • What a great appie!!

  • To Michelle in Ecuador: if you have mild (creamy) plain yogurt available you could strain it to make yogurt cheese, and that could perhaps work....
